GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Kelly Ma oversees supplier sourcing and collaboration with Dollar General’s category managers to find the right suppliers for the right products at the right quality and value for DG customers.
Ma joined DG in 2021 and was promoted last year to vice president of global sourcing.
“Throughout my time at DG, I’ve worked on our ‘cost of goods’ initiative that primarily focuses on keeping prices low by offering a narrower breadth of products and prioritizing private label brands,” she says. “Looking forward, an immediate goal is to continue building a more resilient supply chain so we have a continuous flow of merchandise into our 20,000-plus stores across the 48 states where we operate. At the end of the day, building a more resilient supply chain isn’t just about finding the lowest-cost item, it’s also about balancing our portfolio of products, ensuring suppliers can maintain a supply of goods our customers are seeking.”
Ma says her management style is “situational and adaptive to the needs of the individual, team or project at hand.” She adopts a democratic approach with certain projects and delegates as needed.
“I believe my management style is influenced by my background. I was born in Taiwan and immigrated to the United States with my family when I was seven years old,” she says. “Throughout my career, I have leaned on my family’s heritage as well as my parents’ example of hard work to drive success for my teams. Fluent in Mandarin, I have a deep understanding of how to relate to many of the supplier and vendor partners we work with at DG, adjusting communication methods as well as tactics to each culture.”
