King Kullen names Tracey Cullen president and COO

Joe Brown retires after 53 years

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. — King Kullen announced on Thursday that it has named its first female president and chief operating officer in the grocery chain’s 96-year history. Company chairman James A. Cullen Jr. made the announcement at the company's board meeting.

Tracey Cullen is the great-granddaughter of founder Michael J. Cullen and she succeeds Joseph W. Brown. She previously served as senior vice president of company operations.

Brown, who retired after a 53-year career with the company, had served as president and COO for the past five years.

King Kullen operates 24 supermarkets on Long Island and owns the Wild by Nature natural foods chain, which has four locations in the region. The family-owned company is headquartered here.

“This is a special day for the King Kullen organization as Tracey takes the helm of the company founded by her great-grandfather 96 years ago,” Cullen Jr. said.

Tracey Cullen is an attorney has been with the chain for 16 years. She holds degrees from Boston College, St. John’s University School of Law and Columbia Business School. Cullen lives in Amityville.

“As King Kullen’s first female president, her appointment marks an important milestone and reflects the respect she has earned throughout the organization,” Cullen Jr. added.

In a statement, Cullen acknowledged the company’s long-standing ties to Long Island. “It is an incredible honor to assume this role at a company that has meant so much to my family for four generations,” she said. “Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the values that continue to define King Kullen, including hard work and a deep commitment to the communities we serve.”
