Kroger to close Georgia health clinics

The Little Clinic will operate in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arizona, Indiana, and Colorado, but withdrawing from Georgia marks a significant contraction for the brand.

CINCINNATI — Kroger said it will shutter all 18 of its The Little Clinic in‑store health centers in Georgia on April 4, 2026, marking a significant pullback from its health‑care operations in the state. While the company has not announced additional closures outside Georgia, the move aligns with broader industry cutbacks and Kroger’s ongoing efforts to streamline operations.

The closures will affect all 18 Georgia clinics—including locations in Macon and Warner Robins—which will permanently shut down. The decision reflects continued profitability and compliance challenges facing the retail clinic model, similar to Walmart’s 2024 exit from its own clinic business.

Despite the shutdowns, Kroger is encouraging patients to continue using its in‑store pharmacies, which remain open and are described as strong financial performers. The company is currently focused on reducing costs, closing underperforming assets, and improving operational efficiency amid heightened competition and softer sales trends.

The Little Clinic will continue operating in other states, including Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arizona, Indiana, and Colorado, but the full withdrawal from Georgia represents a notable contraction for the brand. Kroger did not provide specific reasons for the statewide closures, though executives have acknowledged regulatory and technological hurdles since Kroger Health launched in 2017.

Kroger currently operates more than 220 Little Clinic locations across several banners, including Kroger, Fry’s, Jay C, Dillons, and King Soopers.

“We have enjoyed serving the Georgia community for the last several years through our clinics,” a Kroger spokesperson said. “We invite our valued patients to continue using the pharmacies conveniently located in Kroger stores.”
