Lee Nicholson appointed EVP and Chief Merchant at Stop & Shop

Retail veteran Lee Nicholson returns to Stop & Shop as EVP and Chief Merchant, bringing 30 years of industry experience to lead the company's merchandising strategy.

Quincy, Mass.— Stop & Shop has announced the appointment of Lee Nicholson as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Merchant, effective early 2025. Nicholson, currently Senior Vice President of Procurement for Ahold Delhaize USA, brings 30 years of retail industry experience, including over two decades with Ahold’s U.S. companies.

Nicholson joined Stop & Shop in 2004 as a grocery buyer and category manager. His extensive industry experience includes leadership roles at Walmart, SuperValu, and Winn-Dixie.

“I am looking forward to returning to Stop & Shop, which is where I started with this organization,” Nicholson said in a statement. “It’s a brand I know well and look forward to caring for in my new role.”

As EVP and Chief Merchant, Nicholson will oversee merchandising strategy, category management, promotional planning and execution, and pricing for Stop & Shop’s more than 350 supermarkets across New England and the mid-Atlantic.

Roger Wheeler, President of Stop & Shop, expressed confidence in Nicholson’s leadership: “Lee will carry forward the next phases of the large, multi-year price investments Stop & Shop is making, which is a key part of our commitment to strengthen our customer value proposition.
