When Martin was hired to lead the company in July 2010, he was A&P’s second president and CEO in under six months. Martin came to A&P after a three-year stint as chief operating officer at OfficeMax Inc. Before that he was a senior executive with the natural food supermarket chain Wild Oats before it was acquired by Whole Foods Market Inc. in 2007.
Martin led A&P through Chapter 11 bankruptcy and a store remodeling program, but analysts say the company’s turnaround has stalled.
