Kroger Co. chairman and former chief executive officer David Dillon will retire at the end of the month, the company said on December 11.
He will be replaced as chairman by Rodney McMullen, who in January succeeded Dillon as CEO at the nation’s largest traditional supermarket chain.
Dillon, 63, leaves after 38 years at Kroger. He served as CEO from 2003 through 2013. He’s credited, along with McMullen, with responding to rapid change in the industry by developing the Customer 1st Strategy that aimed for a better overall shopping experience, built upon customer service and providing a wide assortment and low prices.
Kroger also announced Nora Aufreiter has been elected to the board.
