GREENSBORO, N.C. — Merz North America has launched Mederma PM Intensive Overnight Scar Cream, which the company called the first nighttime scar care product.
Merz North America has launched Mederma PM Intensive Overnight Scar Cream, which the company called the first nighttime scar care product.
Formulated to work at night, when skin naturally regenerates faster, Mederma PM is clinically shown to improve the overall appearance, size, color and texture of scars, making them softer, smoother and less noticeable, Merz said Monday.
The cream, now available in the first aid and skin care aisles of drug stores nationwide, is also formulated with Tripeptol, a skin nourishing complex with peptides, collagen and antioxidants that complement the increased nighttime regeneration of the skin to promote healthy-looking skin, the company added.
"In my practice, patients want to reduce the appearance of scars, but they also want to see results quickly. During sleep, the body works harder to reverse the skin damage caused during the day, repairing and regenerating skin cells at a faster rate," stated New York City-based dermatologist Dr. Debra Jaliman, author of Skin Rules. "In a clinical study, subjects who used Mederma PM for eight weeks as directed saw noticeable improvement in the size of scars in as little as two to four weeks and a 50% reduction in the size of the scars after eight weeks."
Merz noted that Mederma PM also fits into beauty regimens, given that it’s applied once nightly and can be used with moisturizers and anti-aging creams.
Mederma PM can be used on scars on the face and the body resulting from injury, cuts, surgery, burns and acne, according to Merz. The company said that for best results, the scar cream should be applied evenly and gently rubbed into the scar once nightly for eight weeks on new scars and once nightly for three to six months on existing scars.
"Data shows that nearly half of women try to hide their skin imperfections, such as scars, and admit that their self-confidence would improve if they could reduce the appearance of these skin imperfections," commented Emily Klopp, senior brand manager for Mederma. "We are thrilled to offer a new product that addresses the growing interest in nighttime skin care, while also effectively reducing the appearance of these skin imperfections, helping women to feel more confident in their own skin."
Mederma PM comes in a 1-ounce tube and 1.7-ounce jar at suggested retail prices of $25 and $35, respectively.
Other Mederma products include Mederma Advanced Scar Gel, Mederma Scar Cream plus SPF 30, Mederma for Kids and Mederma Stretch Marks Therapy.
