BENTONVILLE, Ark. — In January Megan Crozier was named executive vice president of general merchandise for Walmart U.S.
It was a return to the division where she spent 16 years before a highly successful five-year stint as chief merchant of Sam’s Club from 2020 through 2024.
Although Crozier began her Walmart career in 2003 as a supply chain engineer, she soon transitioned to merchandising, starting out as an electronics buyer, her introduction to the complex and challenging but profitable GM business. As her Walmart biography notes, she and her team of merchants have the opportunity to help customers celebrate exciting moments, update their homes, play their favorite sports, maintain their vehicles and provide the latest in consumer technology.
In fact, Crozier’s appointment underlines the importance of general merchandise to Walmart. While consumables play a critical role in driving customer traffic, general merchandise encompasses the categories — such as toys, electronics, sporting goods and seasonal — that represent fun and excitement.
Her tenure at Sam’s Club amply demonstrated Crozier’s skills in leading a merchant team, reflected in the chain’s stunning top-line growth achieved without opening any new clubs. She and her merchant team showed an impressive ability to listen to members (especially through the 50,000-member-strong Member’s Mark Community) and deliver great items that they want, whether an Elton John Eyewear collection, lab-grown diamonds, or Members Mark hot chocolate.
“We’re not just listening — we’re partnering with our members every step of the way, from product ideas to reviews,” Crozier wrote in a December article posted on the Walmart website.
