Meijer aids Midwest storm recovery efforts

Meijer partners with the American Red Cross and local groups to give supplies, food, and support to communities hit by severe Midwest storms and tornadoes.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Following several days of severe weather and tornado activity across parts of the Midwest, Meijer is partnering with local relief organizations to support recovery efforts in affected communities, including Merrillville, Ind.

Working with the American Red Cross of Indiana, Meijer donated essential supplies to support cleanup, shelter support, and damage assessment efforts. The retailer provided items such as tarps, totes, work gloves, cleaning supplies, trash bags, hand sanitizer, bottled water, insect repellent, rakes, shovels, and pet food to support residents and response teams.

The company said the storms caused significant damage to homes, businesses and neighborhoods in Merrillville, affecting local residents and some Meijer team members.

Meijer is also working with more than 30 stores in affected areas, along with local United Way agencies and Red Cross partners, to assess ongoing needs across impacted communities. Support efforts may include distributing food and supplies, as well as providing gift cards to help families replace groceries and household essentials lost during the storms.

The retailer said it will continue coordinating with community partners to provide assistance as recovery and rebuilding efforts progress.
