GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — As families across the Midwest prepare for Thanksgiving feasts, Meijer aims to offer more than just groceries — it’s offering customers a chance to help give to their neighbors in need.
For the third consecutive year, the retailer is rallying customers to join its Simply Give hunger-fighting program. For every Meijer brand product purchased during Thanksgiving week, the retailer promises to donate the equivalent of one food item to partner food pantries. From November 24 to 30, shoppers who choose Meijer’s private labels—Frederik's, Meijer True Goodness, and Purple Cow—will contribute to a broader effort to tackle food insecurity across the region.
This initiative has provided four million food items to pantries in the past two years, a benchmark the company hopes to match again in 2024.
“The holiday season is not only a time to gather with family and friends, but also to reach out to our neighbors in need," said Melissa Conway, Meijer’s Director of Community Partnerships and Giving. “When each of us includes a Meijer brand product in our Thanksgiving meal, we are nurturing hope in communities across the Midwest.”
Since its inception in 2008, Meijer’s Simply Give program has become a cornerstone of the company’s philanthropic mission, channeling over $90 million to support local food pantries. In 2024 alone, the program benefited more than 450 food pantries, underscoring its year-round commitment to addressing food insecurity.
Ben Hamlin, Director of Private Label at Meijer, highlighted the significance of the Thanksgiving initiative. “With thousands of high-quality items across all of our brands, this special Simply Give program creates a lasting impact for our customers and pantry partners," he said.
For those looking to make an even greater impact, Meijer offers the Simply Give $10 donation card, available in-store and online. The cards convert to Meijer gift cards that food pantries can redeem for groceries, ensuring that every contribution directly supports local families in need.
