Meijer slashes prices on school-year grocery staples

"We’re stepping up to help families save money on every meal to help fuel kids’ learning.”

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer is rolling out deep discounts on a range of grocery essentials this fall, cutting prices by as much as 50% on dozens of private-label products to help families manage back-to-school budgets.

The promotion, which runs through Sept. 30, covers popular Meijer brand items often found in school lunches and quick breakfasts, including instant oatmeal, peanut butter and jelly, bread, cereal, fruit snacks and granola bars. The retailer said the seasonal savings are aimed at easing the financial strain many parents face when stocking up for busier mornings and packed lunches.

“Costs add up quickly as parents adjust their grocery list for the school season, so we’re stepping up to help families save money on every meal to help fuel kids’ learning,” said Calli Schmid, Meijer’s vice president of grocery. “As a family-owned company, we know the first month of school can be a tough time for both kids and parents. So, just like we helped families celebrate summer with great deals, we’re doing the same for back to school.”

Discounted items include:

  • Meijer Instant Oatmeal (10-pack): $1.79
  • Meijer White or Whole Wheat Split-Top Bread: $1.39
  • Meijer Creamy or Crunchy Peanut Butter (16 oz.): $1.39
  • Meijer Strawberry Preserves (18 oz.): $1.39
  • Meijer Granola Bars (6-count): $1.79
  • Meijer Chicken Nuggets or Chicken Fries: $4.49

The retail said that additional savings are available through mPerks, Meijer’s digital rewards program, which offers points on purchases, in-store coupons and fuel discounts at Meijer Express stations.
