Michaels introduces new format designed to inspire creativity

Remodeled store in Irving, Texas, features ‘all of our visualizations come to life.’

IRVING, Texas — Michaels introduced its reimagined store format on July 24 during a grand re-opening ceremony at a freshly renovated outlet.

The remodeled location features fresh displays, expanded assortments, and community spaces meant to inspire and facilitate creativity.

“What you’re going to see today is our best creation yet, the newest store inside of our entire fleet,” CEO David Boone told onlookers awaiting the 9 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony, some of whom had been there since 6:15 in the morning. “And inside of it is all the newest things that our merchants have imagined, all of our visualization that has come to life, and all of what our creative people have put together in new formats.”

The updated store introduces customization bars and classrooms for hosting candle-making and other creative endeavors. The site includes flexible spaces that can accommodate workshops, birthday parties and other events.

Also new are updated and expanded Michaels’ assortments, including Knit & Sew and Party Shop. New private brands and a larger selection of craft supplies were also introduced at the new locale.

The grand opening involved a variety of family-friendly activities, including a local-maker craft fair, live music, games, balloon artists, face painting, a photo booth, and demonstrations in embroidery, sewing and painting, according to a dispatch in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The newspaper noted that after 53 years in business, Michaels has more than 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, selling arts-and-crafts-related items, including cake-decorating materials, beads, art supplies, fabrics, frames, scrapbooking supplies, florals and home decor.
