Shopko Stores has introduced a mobile pharmacy application that enables customers to refill and manage their pharmacy prescriptions from a variety of smartphones.

The general merchandise chain and pharmacy retailer said Tuesday that with the new app, customers can request refills, review active prescription details (including expiration date, refills remaining and overdue refills) and set up dosage reminders.

Users of the app also can receive e-mail or text notifications when a prescription refill is ready as well as leverage the Pharmacy Locator feature to find and get driving directions to the nearest Shopko store plus check its hours of operation.

The free app, which can be downloaded at shopko.com/app, is available on the iPhone, Android and Blackberry mobile device platforms.

"We are always exploring new ways to improve customer service and make our pharmacy services more convenient, and this app makes finding our stores and filling prescriptions on their mobile devices quick and easy for our customers," Paul Jones, Shopko’s president, chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement. "This app is in direct response to consumer demand, and we’ve worked hard to develop the features most important to our customers. This will be a convenient and simple new way to access our award winning pharmacy services."

Shopko operates 149 stores in 13 states throughout the Midwest, Mountain and Pacific Northwest regions, including 134 Shopko stores and 10 Shopko Hometown locations — all with pharmacies — plus five Shopko Express Rx stores.
