DEERFIELD, Ill. — New Walgreens chief national operating officer Anthony Spina says he is "energized by the scale of opportunity ahead."

Spina had been with Shoppers Drug Mart for nearly 28 years, most recently as senior vice president of national operations and pharmacy transformation, before joining Walgreens last month.
He posted on LinkedIn that he had visited over 40 Walgreens stores "and seen firsthand the commitment of our teams, the resilience of our stores, and the power of this brand to make a real difference for patients, customers, and communities across the U.S."
"I’m deeply grateful for the experiences, partnerships, and friendships built over the years at Shoppers," he added. "Together, we navigated meaningful change, drove operational excellence, and strengthened access to care for millions across Canada."
He said he was "looking forward to continuing this work with purpose and helping shape the future of retail pharmacy.
Spina joined Shoppers as a store administrator in July 1997.
