ST. LOUIS — In the second phase of a transition that was announced in January, Todd Schnuck has assumed the role of chairman and chief executive officer of the family-owned food retailer Schnuck Markets Inc.

In the second phase of a transition that was announced in January, Todd Schnuck has assumed the role of chairman and chief executive officer of the family-owned food retailer Schnuck Markets Inc.

Also, Anthony Hucker is now the retailer’s president and chief operating officer.
Earlier this year, then-CEO Scott Schnuck turned the reins of the company over to Todd. Last month’s announcement and title change finalizes the transition, according to the company. Scott Schnuck now serves as chairman of the executive committee.

In his new role, Todd Schnuck, 55, will be responsible for overseeing the company’s top leadership team and advancing the company’s vision of "nourishing people’s lives" by moving the company forward and guiding its continued growth and development. He will also work to integrate the family’s fourth generation into the business.

Todd Schnuck joined Schnucks full time in 1987, taking the post of treasurer after spending about four years as an investment banker with A.G. Edwards & Sons.

During his 22-year tenure as chief financial officer at Schnucks, Todd played a lead role in the company’s acquisitions of National Supermarkets (1995), Logli (1998) and Seessel’s (2002). He was later named company president in 2006, and chief operating officer in 2009.

Hucker, 48, now assumes the latter two titles. The executive, who joined Schnucks in September 2013 as chief strategy officer, is the first non-family member to hold the posts of president and COO of the St. Louis-based retailer. Hucker is a native of Wales whose first grocery job was working as a produce clerk at a store in the United Kingdom. Highlights of his career have included a stint at Aldi, where he helped that retailer with its U.K. expansion, and a position at Walmart, where he played a role in the creation of the Walmart Express format. Before joining Schnucks, Hucker was president of Ahold USA’s Giant Food division.

Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnucks is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. The company currently operates 98 stores and 93 in-store pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Iowa. Schnucks continues to expand, recently opening a replacement store in St. Charles, Mo., and a new store in Farmington, Mo.

Meanwhile, in another recent personnel move, Andrew Nadin has joined Schnucks as chief marketing officer. He reports to Hucker, and will oversee advertising, marketing, omni/multichannel and customer research.

"For me, the brand is founded on the family heritage," Nadin says. "The fact that Schnucks was started by a woman, a rarity in those days, looking to feed her family and community, is a unique part of that heritage. Now, 75 years later, whilst we are all committed to making the business profitable, we still have the qualities and principles developed by Anna [Schnuck] being continued by third and fourth generations of the family."

Nadin is relocating from the United Kingdom, where, for the past four years, he has been the CEO of the brand marketing firm APN Consultancy. Nadin has also worked for Mars Inc. and Aldi.
