LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix Super Market is bringing its new-concept GreenWise Market to Tampa. The retailer also plans to remodel an older version of the format in the city, converting it into a traditional Publix store during a planned remodel scheduled to begin next month.
“We look forward to sharing our new-concept GreenWise Market with our Tampa customers,” Publix President Kevin Murphy said in a statement. “Once they discover the unique products, atmosphere and prepared meals they can eat in the store or take with them as they enjoy the waterfront, they’ll see why we chose to go in a new direction with a brand they know and trust.”
The new GreenWise Market store will be part of the Water Street Tampa development in the city’s Channelside district. That area will also be home to a traditional Publix Super Market, which is scheduled to open next month. The new GreenWise Market, the company’s 11th announced location for the format, is expected to open in late 2021.
Publix describes GreenWise Market as a specialty, natural and organic store, featuring items for both the health-conscious and gourmet foodie.
The company’s first next generation GreenWise Market opened in Tallahassee, Florida, in October 2018, and a second store followed in Mount Pleasant, S.C., in May. A third store opened on June 27 in Mountain Brook, Ala., and additional GreenWise stores are slated to open later this year in Lakeland and Boca Raton, Fla., and in Lexington, S.C. The company says it continues to look for locations for additional GreenWise Markets throughout its operating area.
