New Whole Foods Market in Elk Grove, California, to open September 16

Retailer’s newest location to feature more than 1,500 products from 300+ California-based suppliers

ELK GROVE, Calif. — Whole Foods Market will open a new 43,000-square-foot store, located at 8100 Elk Grove Blvd. in Elk Grove, Calif., on September 16, 2026. The store will open at 9:00 a.m. on opening day, and regular store hours will be 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. daily. This will be the 4th Whole Foods Market store in the Sacramento area, and the 94th in California.

The new location’s product assortment features more than 1,500 local items from California-based suppliers, sourced with the help of Patrick Wyman, Forager for Local & Emerging Brands at Whole Foods Market.

Features of the new Elk Grove store include:

  • An array of certified organic, conventional Sourced for Good produce with a more than 200 local products from California-based suppliers, including Full Belly FarmDurst Organic Growers, and Coke Farm. Pollinator Health Policy, which aims to reduce the use of chemical pesticides.
  • Specialty department dedicated to celebrating cheesemakers and artisan producers. Local assortment includes products from Andante DairyCharles Chocolates, and Nicasio Valley Cheese. The cheese counter is overseen by trained cheesemongers who can offer recommendations for any occasion.
  • Curated grocery section filled with exclusive brand favorites and products from local suppliers, including coffee from Pachamama Coffee, plant-based cheese from The Cultured Kitchen, and sauerkraut from Local Culture Ferments.
  • Seafood counter providing expert fishmonger service, ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat meal solutions, and a variety of local items from suppliers including The Santa Barbara Smokehouse and Tsar Nicoulai. All offerings are either sustainable wild-caught or Responsibly Farmed.
  • Full-service meat counter, with animal-welfare certified selections and expert butchers available to cut steaks and poultry to order. Features include made-in-house fresh sausage, marinated and seasoned meats for quick and easy meals, and local items from suppliers such as Pozzi Ranch, Mary’s Chicken, and True Story Foods. Animals must be raised without ever using antibiotics.
  • Extensive beverage selection including spirits, more than 600 wines and more than 300 craft beers. The department will also feature products from more than 166 local wineries and 130 local breweries, including Lucy WinesMommenpopGrounded Wine CompanySchramsberg VineyardsFieldwork Brewing Co.Golden State Cider, and Jackrabbit Brewing Co..
  • A Prepared Foods department featuring hot food and salad bars with a rotating menu of comfort foods and seasonal options, fresh pizza by the slice or by the whole pie, a Market Sandwich venue featuring a delicious menu of gourmet sandwiches  and sushi rolled fresh daily by Genji.
  • Bakery department offering bread baked fresh daily as well as everyday favorites, such as Whole Foods Market’s Berry Chantilly Cake and brown butter cookies. The department also carries a wide variety of special diet items and seasonal options. Local offerings include scones and baked treats from Sconehenge Bakery, bread from The Baker and the Cakemaker, and vegan whoopie pies, cookies, and granola from Sugar Plum Bakery.
  • Wellness & Beauty department with a wide range of body care, beauty, lifestyle and supplement products. Local items include moringa powder and gummies from Kuli Kuli Foods, toothpaste tablets from Huppy, and skincare from Cocokind.

On opening morning, customers will enjoy coffee from Pachamama Coffee. The first 300 customers in line will receive a limited-edition Elk Grove tote bag and a Secret Saver coupon with savings of up to $100.

In celebration of the opening, Whole Foods Market is providing a food donation to River City Food Bankopens in a new tab, which makes regular surplus food pickups from local Whole Foods Market stores to help prevent food waste and serve the surrounding community. The nonprofit previously received a refrigerated van from Whole Foods Market. Both donations are part of Whole Foods Market’s Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program, which aims to enhance local food rescue organizations' ability to transport surplus food to areas facing the greatest need. Whole Foods Market will also provide a monetary donation to River City Food Bank.

All food at Whole Foods Market must meet the company’s rigorous quality standards, which prohibit hydrogenated fats, high-fructose corn syrup and more than 300 flavors, colors, sweeteners and other ingredients commonly found in food. In addition, all beauty and body care products must meet the company’s body care standards, which ban more than 240 commonly used ingredients, including phthalates, parabens and microbeads.
