Ollie’s Bargain Outlet enters Minnesota

Grand opening in Austin gives discounter a retail presence in 35 states.

Ollie’s Bargain Outlet Inc. this week celebrated the grand opening of its first store in Minnesota, in Austin, about 100 miles south of Minneapolis.

"Our first Minnesota store represents an important milestone in our Midwest expansion,” said Eric van der Valk, president and CEO of Harrisburg, Pa.-based Ollie's. “We could not be more excited to enter our 35th state and bring Good Stuff Cheap to the people of Austin and beyond.”

Added van der Valk, "Our people are the heart of our business. We're looking for great talent to join the best and fastest growing retail team in the country."

As one of the nation’s fastest-growing retailers of brand-name closeouts and excess inventory, Ollie's sells brand-name merchandise at up to 70% off, the company said.

An overwhelming majority of its sales are to the more than 15 million members of its “Ollie’s Army” loyalty program, which provides different perks to one-, two- or three-star generals.

Ollie’s promises bargains for members who venture into its no-frills, warehouse-style stores for brand-name food, apparel, home goods, and personal electronics. As often as not, Ollie’s said, members come not with a specific item in mind but for the thrill of the treasure hunt.
