LOS ANGELES — Otis Spunkmeyer said all Otis Spunkmeyer branded foods sold in the United States are now free from artificial food grade dyes, completing the removal of Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic (FD&C) colors across its portfolio.
The company announced that 100 percent of Otis Spunkmeyer products made after Jan. 1, 2026, will no longer contain FD&C colors, following a reformulation of a small number of baked goods that previously included these additives. This change applies to items sold across foodservice and retail in-store bakery channels.
Otis Spunkmeyer, which has nearly 50 years of experience in sweet baked goods, holds the No. 1 market share in foodservice cookies and muffins and has kept that position for over five years, according to the company.
The brand also participates in the American Bakers Association's “Baked Goods in Schools Pledge,” a voluntary industry effort to remove FD&C colors from baked goods served in K-12 schools through federal nutrition programs by the start of the 2026–2027 school year. Otis Spunkmeyer stated it has met that goal ahead of the deadline.
Company officials stated that the reformulation effort reflects broader consumer and customer expectations regarding ingredient transparency and ongoing innovation in the baked goods category.
Founded in California in 1977, Otis Spunkmeyer started as a chain of retail cookie stores before growing into foodservice with a fresh-baked cookie program that included ovens and merchandising tools. Today, the brand serves foodservice, retail, fundraising, convenience stores, and vending channels, and remains the top frozen cookie dough brand in foodservice.
