Bottom Dollar Food, a division of Delhaize America Inc., plans to open 15 to 20 stores by the end of this year in the greater Philadelphia market.

The expansion will create more than 600 jobs throughout the Philadelphia region.

"Bottom Dollar Food has great potential in the market, as we believe it is underserved in the soft-discount grocer arena," states Meg Ham, president of Bottom Dollar Food, which opened its first store in 2005 in High Point, N.C.

"We are excited to expand Bottom Dollar Food and look forward to serving the greater Philadelphia community," Ham says. "Customers will find Bottom Dollar Food unique because we carry national and private products and offer outstanding quality in produce, meat and other products."

Delhaize also operates supermarkets under the Food Lion and Hannaford Bros. banners.
