Publix Charities makes record $25 million donation to fight hunger

Thousands of Publix associates are also volunteering at organizations focused on ending hunger.

LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix Super Markets Charities is making its largest-ever donation to fight food insecurity, committing $25 million to more than 350 food banks and other nonprofit organizations across Publix’s operating area.

The Hunger Action Month contribution represents a $10 million increase from last year and includes support for 43 Feeding America partner food banks. The donation brings Publix Charities’ total investment in hunger-relief efforts to more than $103 million since 2015.

At the same time, more than 8,000 Publix associates are volunteering at over 150 nonprofit organizations as part of the retailer’s annual Publix Serves Week, which this year is focused on feeding people in need.

“As a food retailer, we believe our greatest opportunity to give back is helping feed our neighbors in need — a responsibility we take to heart,” Publix CEO Kevin Murphy said. “I’m proud of our associates for taking the time to come together and make a real difference where they live and work.”

The $25 million contribution will support programs tailored to local needs, including weekend backpack programs, food pantries and meal delivery services. Funding will also help Feeding America partner food banks in Publix’s eight-state operating area pay for one-time investments such as vehicles and other capital improvements.

According to Feeding America, nearly 12 million people are food insecure across the eight states where Publix operates.

The retailer supplements the charitable foundation’s efforts with year-round programs designed to address hunger and reduce food waste. Twice annually, its Good Together hunger campaign allows customers and associates to make donations at the register to help local food banks obtain fresh produce and nonperishable foods. The next campaign is scheduled for Nov. 11 through Nov. 22.

Publix also donates food that is no longer salable but remains safe for consumption through its Good Together food donation program. In 2025, the company donated more than 140 million pounds of food to Feeding America partner food banks and their agencies, setting a single-year record for the program, which began in 2009.

Publix operates 1,442 stores across Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Kentucky. The employee-owned retailer has more than 260,000 associates.
