LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix Super Markets is expanding its presence in Kentucky with plans for three new stores, bringing the total to seven, following the addition of four stores already operating in the state.
The Florida-based grocer has signed leases for supermarkets in Georgetown, Louisville and Owensboro, each spanning about 50,000 square feet. The Georgetown and Owensboro locations will include adjacent Publix Liquors stores.
The Georgetown store, planned for Elkhorn Village Center, will mark the city’s first Publix and is expected to employ around 150 people. The Louisville store, in Blankenbaker Plaza, will be the chain’s fourth in the city, while the Owensboro location at Yellow Banks Square will be its second there. Opening dates for all three sites have not been announced yet.
“We are excited to continue our growth across Kentucky with a new location in Georgetown,” said Jared Glover, media relations manager for Publix. “We look forward to our new customers experiencing the Publix difference soon.”
Publix entered Kentucky in January 2024 with a store in Louisville and has been steadily expanding its footprint in the region. With more than 1,400 locations across eight Southeastern states, Publix reported $59.7 billion in sales for its fiscal year 2024, representing a 4.6% year-over-year increase.
