Publix reports increase in 4th quarter sales

LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix Super Markets Inc. recorded a 13.4% rise in sales to $7.2 billion for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2011, aided by an extra week that added 7.6% to the top line.

Comparable-store sales for the quarter grew 5.3%.

Net income for the quarter jumped 16.8% to $399.5 million. Sales for the 53-week year gained 7.3% to $27.0 billion, while comparable-store sales increased 4.1%. Full-year net earnings climbed 11.5% to $1.5 billion.
