CHARLESTON, S.C. – Convenience retailer Refuel has named Justin Mitchell as chief technology officer and Derek Leskovic as chief financial officer, continuing a wave of C-suite changes just a month after appointing co-CEOs Travis Smith and Jon Rier.
The Charleston, South Carolina-based operator of 240 stores also announced on Monday that it has promoted Ian Bowers to General Counsel.
“Each of these individuals has demonstrated exceptional leadership, deep functional expertise, and a strong commitment to Refuel’s mission,” Refuel said in a LinkedIn post. “Their contributions have shaped critical areas of our business, earned the trust of teams across the organization, and advanced our strategic priorities with focus and discipline.”
Mitchell, who joined Refuel in 2022 as VP of IT, has led the company’s digital transformation, including its migration to cloud-based infrastructure, implementation of AI-driven solutions, and cybersecurity enhancements. His prior roles include senior IT leadership at Petroleum Equipment Co. and Sportsman’s Warehouse, as well as nearly a decade at Maverik.
Leskovic, who joined Refuel in 2019 and was most recently VP of accounting, will now oversee the company’s finance and accounting functions, supporting reporting improvements and Refuel’s expansion strategy. His prior experience includes corporate accounting at General Nutrition Center and roles in retail and manufacturing.
Bowers, who joined Refuel in 2022 and was subsequently promoted to VP of Legal, has managed procurement, environmental, risk management, and development functions, while playing a key role in Refuel’s M&A activities. He previously worked in commercial transactions and litigation at law firms.
Refuel operates stores across the Carolinas and Texas as it continues to grow its convenience retail footprint under its refreshed leadership team.
