RILA board elects Target's Steinhafel as chairman

ARLINGTON, Va. — Gregg Steinhafel, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Target Corp., has been elected chairman of the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA).

Gregg Steinhafel, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Target Corp., has been elected chairman of the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA).

The retail trade group said Steinhafel’s election at RILA chairman took place at its board of directors’ semiannual meeting on Sunday in Naples, Fla.

Previously vice chairman of the RILA board, Steinhafel succeeds Bill Rhodes, chairman and CEO of AutoZone Inc., who has served as its chairman since 2010. Rhodes will remain a member of the board’s executive committee, serving as immediate past chair.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as chairman of this exceptional group of industry leaders," Steinhafel said in a statement. "Along with the rest of the board of directors, I value RILA and its efforts to champion issues that affect our industry, our workforce and our customers."

Other newly elected officers to the RILA board include Richard Dreiling, chairman and CEO of Dollar General Corp., as vice chairman; Greg Wasson, president and CEO of Walgreen Co., as second vice chairman; Eric Wiseman, chairman, president and CEO of VF Corp. as treasurer; and Robert Niblock, chairman and CEO of Lowe’s Cos., as secretary.

In addition, Walter Robb, co-CEO of Whole Foods Market, and Alan Hoskins, president and CEO of Energizer Household Products, were elected to the RILA board for two-year terms.

"RILA benefits tremendously from its highly engaged and strategic board of directors," RILA president Sandy Kennedy said in a statement. "Their valuable insight into the short- and long-term issues facing the retail industry is critical to our ability to deliver on the industry’s behalf."
