WASHINGTON — The Retail Industry Leaders Association today issued the following statement regarding the ongoing federal government shutdown:

As the shutdown continues, its ripple effects are being felt across the country, from the risks posed to the most vulnerable in our communities by a possible lapse in SNAP benefits to the potential for air traffic delays and disruptions. At a time when our economy has seen positive momentum, it is essential that the U.S. maintain that progress and avoid unnecessary setbacks.

“Retailers across the country depend on a stable economic environment to serve their customers and support millions of jobs,” said Austen Jensen, RILA’s Senior Executive Vice President of Public Affairs. “Prolonged uncertainty caused by a government shutdown threatens that stability. We encourage lawmakers to support a clean continuing resolution that reopens the federal government and keeps our economy moving forward.”

We urge Congress to work together and reach an agreement that reopens the government and restores certainty for businesses, workers, and families.
