Rina Shah is senior vice president and head of enterprise specialty pharmacy at Walgreens, based in Chicago. She brings over 25 years of experience with community-based care to deliver the future of specialty pharmacy in health care and broaden pharmacist capabilities.
In her current role, Shah is responsible for the specialty pharmacy business and patient experiences across the Walgreens community and centralized specialty assets.
Shah joined Walgreens in 1998 and has held various in-store pharmacy roles. In 2007, she joined the corporate support center, fulfilling leadership roles with responsibility for launching innovative, tech-enabled health care initiatives, leading market access sales operations and client services, and overseeing pharmacy operations, services and specialty pharmacy across more than 9,000 Walgreens retail locations.
Shah was critical in the company’s COVID-19 pandemic response, contributing to the enablement of vaccinations, testing and treatment services across the Walgreens enterprise.
In 2022, she was appointed to the newly created role of vice president of the pharmacy of the future and health care segments, charged with driving improved integration of pharmacy and health care services, clinical strategy, and operations.
Shah’s influence and leadership capabilities have been recognized by numerous publications, including Mass Market Retailers, Crain’s Chicago Business and Fierce Healthcare. She is actively involved with the UIC College of Pharmacy, APhA, NASP, the CDC and NACDS. In addition, she was re-elected to the NACDS Foundation board of directors and serves on the board of Blood Cancer United – Illinois chapter.
