Rite Aid Corp. has opened its first in-store RediClinics, part of a campaign the company said will expand its community health offerings and take "the health and well-being of our customers to the next level."

Two dozen RediClinics are now open in Rite Aid pharmacies in the greater Baltimore and Washington, D.C., market as well as in the Philadelphia area, the company said. Company executives gathered to mark the clinic openings with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday at a Rite Aid pharmacy in Newtown Square, Pa.

"As a community pharmacy, we are on the front lines of community health every day, and it is critical that we provide the types of programs, resources and services needed to help our customers live and stay well," said Ken Martindale, Rite Aid’s president and chief operating officer.

RediClinic customers can be treated for more than 30 medical conditions, Rite Aid said, and, when appropriate, clinicians can write prescriptions for these conditions.

The RediClinics are staffed by board-certified nurse practitioners trained and licensed to treat common conditions and provide preventive services in collaboration with local physicians affiliated with leading local health care systems, Rite Aid said.

The RediClinics also offer preventive services, including screenings, medical tests, immunizations and physical exams. Some of the pharmacies will also offer the company’s Weigh Forward weight and lifestyle management program.

Rite Aid said it plans to open RediClinics inside selected Rite Aid pharmacies in the Seattle area this spring and is looking for additional clinic locations in Texas, where RediClinic got its start nearly a decade ago and where it continues to provide health services at walk-in clinics.

Rite Aid acquired Houston-based RediClinic last year.

In November, Rite Aid introduced other health services, including a pilot of HealthSpot telehealth stations in Ohio and Vaccine Central, an online resource with an immunization evaluation tool to help people gauge their vaccination needs.
