DENVER — The National Association of Chain Drug Stores has honored recently retired Rite Aid executive Robert Thompson with its Harold W. Pratt Award.
The National Association of Chain Drug Stores has honored recently retired Rite Aid executive Robert Thompson with its Harold W. Pratt Award.
The award, which the association describes as "pharmacy’s highest honor," was presented last month at the NACDS Total Store Expo.
"Robert Thompson has always devoted his full energy to serving our customers and supporting the employees we count on to deliver that service — in our pharmacies and in the rest of the business," said NACDS chairman and Hy-Vee Inc. chairman, president and chief executive officer Randy Edeker, who presented the award. "Robert is fully deserving of NACDS’ highest industry recognition, and we are honored to bestow the distinguished Harold W. Pratt Award upon him. We thank him for his service to pharmacy, and we wish him well in his retirement."
Thompson’s career as a pharmacist spans nearly four decades. He joined the former Revco drug chain in 1978, ultimately serving as vice president of pharmacy operations, a position he held until 1995.
Thompson then held leadership positions at other health care-related companies, before returning to chain drug retailing. He joined Rite Aid in 2004, He was senior vice president of pharmacy operations and senior vice president of operations for the northeastern division, before being named executive vice president of pharmacy in 2009. He held that post until his recently announced retirement.
