BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Sam’s Club has named David Badeen vice president of health care. He is responsible for pharmacy (including third-party contracting and pricing) and over-the-counter drugs at Walmart’s membership warehouse club division.

He is also in charge of Sam’s Club’s optical and hearing aid centers.
Badeen reports to Sam’s Club senior vice president of health and wellness Jill Turner-Mitchael.
Badeen first joined Walmart in 1985 as a store pharmacy manager. He moved to Walmart’s home office in Bentonville in 1993 to serve as director of automated systems, and from 1996 to 1998 he served director of pharmacy at Sam’s Club.
He later went on to assume leadership roles within operations, new business development, merchandising and managed care at Walmart.
Badeen fills the role formerly held by Jason Reiser, who had served as vice president of merchandising, health and family care at Sam’s Club. Reiser left the company last summer to take a position with Family Dollar Stores Inc.
In his new position Badeen will lead a large and growing pharmacy and health care enterprise at Sam’s Club. The warehouse club chain has pharmacies in about 581 of its 630 locations, and it has been raising its profile in terms of health care services in recent years.
In January, for example, Sam’s Club launched a new series of free health screenings at its outlets with pharmacies. Billed as offering the public (the screenings are available to nonmembers as well) a way to stay on track with New Year’s resolutions to lose weight, get fit or just lead a healthier life.
The free screenings, which will be offered on the second Saturday of each month through October, are valued at $100 and include tests for glucose levels, total cholesterol, blood pressure and body mass index. At clubs with optical centers, vision testing/screening will also be available.
"For the fourth consecutive year, Sam’s Club pharmacy associates are giving back to our communities with the free health screening program," Turner-Mitchael said when the new screening program was announced. "Last year the program performed more than 896,000 free screenings over 10 monthly events in our clubs. In 2014 our pharmacies continue to offer world-class counsel, amazing savings and easy access to prescriptions, immunizations and vital preventive screenings to keep our communities aware of their health."
In other personnel news, meanwhile, Sam’s Club vice president of consumables George Agnacian has been given additional responsibilities that include health and beauty aids, tabletops/bags, pets, laundry and home care, baby care, restaurant supplies, paper, and commercial cleaning.
