ST. LOUIS — With the help and generosity of its valued customers, Save A Lot, one of the largest discount grocery chains in the United States, has donated 103,656 bags of much-needed, high-quality food to local charities fighting hunger as part of its Bags for a Brighter Holiday effort. Throughout October, November and December, Save A Lot customers across the country supported their local communities by purchasing pre-assembled bags of food that were donated to local food charities and pantries.
To further amplify the program’s impact, Save A Lot is donating an additional $50,000 in gift cards to help 116 of the participating charities with groceries.
“This year’s results for this initiative show all of us at Save A Lot that our customers really are the heart of our business,” said Bill Mayo, Chief Executive Officer at Save A Lot. “We recognized the need to launch this program early to help those who needed it the most and our customers responded in a big way. Knowing the positive impact all these bags of food will have for communities around the country is inspiring.”
In total, approximately $548,952.93 worth of food and gift cards was donated to feed families in need. Each bag was stocked with private label and brand name food items, including pasta, stuffing mix, canned vegetables and other grocery staples from Save A Lot.
