The Canadian drug chain has not indicated who will succeed Scorpiniti as CEO.
Scorpiniti also has stepped down as chairman of the Neighbourhood Pharmacy Association of Canada, a recently formed pharmacy trade group. He has been succeeded in that role by Vivek Sood, general manager of Lawtons Drug Stores Ltd.
Warren Jeffery, Rexall’s chief operating officer, will represent Rexall later today at an event in Toronto aimed at helping Canadians stay healthy during the current cold and flu season.
Scorpiniti joined Rexall parent Katz Group Canada Ltd. when he was appointed as COO in April 2011, coming over from Duane Reade, where he was senior vice president of pharmacy operations. The New York City drug chain had been acquired by Walgreen Co. a year earlier. In September 2011, Scorpiniti was named to succeed the retiring Andy Giancamilli as Katz CEO, taking the helm as chief executive in February 2012.
Scorpiniti has more than 20 years of retail pharmacy experience. Before joining Duane Reade in late 2008, he held positions of increasing responsibility at Longs Drug Stores, including as vice president of pharmacy operations and vice president of pharmacy marketing, before the chain was acquired by CVS Caremark Corp. in 2008. He began his career as a pharmacist.
Overall, Rexall operates nearly 460 pharmacies in six provinces and one territory.
