TORONTO — Sears Canada Inc. has chosen Ronald Boire to serve as president and chief executive officer.
Sears Canada Inc. has chosen Ronald Boire to serve as president and chief executive officer.
Boire has held the posts on an interim basis since October, when he stepped in to replace Douglas Campell, who left the company for personal reasons.
Prior to his role with Sears Canada, Boire was executive vice president, chief merchandising officer and president of the Sears and Kmart formats at the U.S. parent company, Sears Holdings Corp.
Boire joined Sears Holdings in January 2012. Before that he was president and CEO at Brookstone Inc. He has also held leadership roles at Toys R Us and Best Buy.
"The board of directors believes Ron has the capabilities, experience and leadership that Sears Canada needs at this time," said Sears Canada chairman William Crowley. "He is assembling a team, developing an approach and instilling a culture that is necessary to improve the business."
Boire said he appreciates the board’s vote of confidence.
"I am aware of the challenges facing the evolving Canadian retail marketplace, and Sears Canada in particular," Boire said. "I understand what needs to be done, and I am confident that our associates are engaged and focused on the drivers of our future success."
