ShopRite opens new, expanded Jersey City store at Hudson Exchange Place

The new store occupies the second floor of Everton, a 60-story residential tower within the Hudson Exchange development.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Inserra Supermarkets recently opened the new ShopRite of Hudson Exchange Place, an 85,000-square-foot supermarket located at 99 Provost St. in downtown Jersey City, replacing the retailer's former Metro Plaza location on Marin Boulevard.

The new store occupies the second floor of Everton, a 60-story residential tower within the Hudson Exchange development. At 20,000 square feet larger than its predecessor, the location offers an expanded shopping experience with a broader assortment of fresh foods, prepared meals and convenience-focused services.

Inserra Supermarkets marked the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by company executives, employees and local officials. The family-owned company, which operates 24 ShopRite stores in New Jersey and New York, said the investment underscores its long-term commitment to serving Jersey City residents.

"We are so excited to welcome customers to our new home at 99 Provost St. and continue serving the Jersey City community in a beautiful, modern and expanded space," said Lawrence R. Inserra Jr., chairman and CEO of Inserra Supermarkets.

In addition to an expanded grocery offering, the store features nutrition counseling services through a registered dietitian, ticketless parking accessed through a mobile app, Caper smart carts, four passenger elevators, three escalators and two cart movers.

The supermarket serves as a key retail anchor for the mixed-use Everton development, which includes more than 800 residential units. Developers BGRE and G&S Investors said the project was designed to bring housing, retail and neighborhood amenities together while ensuring continued grocery access in downtown Jersey City.

Founded in 1954, Inserra Supermarkets remains family-owned and is a member of Wakefern Food Corp., the retailer-owned supermarket cooperative. In addition to ShopRite stores, the company operates Price Rite Marketplace and Fresh Grocer locations throughout the region.

The new ShopRite of Hudson Exchange Place is open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
