BENTONVILLE, Ark. — As executive vice president of consumables, Silvia Azrai Kawas leads a team responsible for the overall merchandising strategy and assortment for Walmart U.S.’ consumables business, which includes the baby, beauty, health and wellness, household essentials, personal care and pet categories. Consumables is an important traffic driver for Walmart in-store and online.
Azrai Kawas has been with Walmart for more than 22 years and has held positions across merchandising. A graduate of the University of Jordan with a BA in marketing, she earned an MBA from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.
Her Walmart career began in 2002 as marketing manager for Walmart Financial Services, and in 2007 she was appointed senior group manager, prepaid debit and network branded gift cards. In 2009, she transitioned to merchandising as director of strategy, merchandising innovations.
Three years later Azrai Kawas moved into merchandising as divisional merchandise manager (DMM) for snacks, and in 2014 she was promoted to vice president of adult beverages. In 2019 she was named vice president of private brands for food, including both packaged and fresh items.
Another promotion followed in 2022, when Azrai Kawas was elevated to the position of senior VP of merchandising for consumables. She occupied that role until taking on her current role as head of consumables in June 2023.
Under Azrai Kawas’ leadership, consumables has launched several new brands and expanded categories and services — including subscriptions, pet services and premium beauty.
