HARRISBURG, Pa. — Sioux Honey Co-op and Weis Markets today are donating 9,720 eight-ounce bottles of SUE BEE Clover Honey, totaling 4,860 pounds, to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank in support of families across the region.
The donation will be delivered at 11 a.m. on Sept. 30 at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank's Harrisburg Healthy Food Hub, located at 3908 Corey Road, Harrisburg, Pa. Representatives from Sioux Honey Co-op, Weis Markets and the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank will be available for interviews.
The donation coincides with the final day of both National Honey Month and Hunger Action Month, transforming two national observances into meaningful support for the food bank and the 27 counties it serves.
"We're proud to partner with Weis Markets and the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank to help provide a nutritious, shelf-stable product to families in need," said a Sioux Honey Co-op representative. "This donation reflects the mission of our Sharing Sweetness initiative, which brings together beekeepers, retailers and food banks to make a positive impact in communities across the country."
Through its Sharing Sweetness initiative, Sioux Honey Co-op collaborates with retailers and food banks nationwide to help address food insecurity. With this latest donation, the program has surpassed 109,000 pounds of large-scale honey donations over the past two years.
"Weis Markets is committed to supporting the communities we serve," said a Weis Markets representative. "By partnering with Sioux Honey Co-op and the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, we're able to help provide an important pantry staple to local families."
