“At Soupergirl, we have always believed that food is one of the most powerful tools we have to change the world,” said Sara Polon, co-founder of Soupergirl. “Every day, we see women across this country who are channeling that belief into real action, fighting to make sure more people have access to nourishing, sustainably produced food. We created the Soupergirl of the Year Spotlight to shine a light on those individuals because they deserve to be celebrated, amplified, and supported. The world needs more Soupergirls.”

While reviews of the film may be mixed, the Soupergirl of the Year Spotlight is an intentional reminder that heroism is not the stuff of capes and special effects but the people who show up, day after day, with a sense of purpose and a determination to help feed our communities or improve our food system so that it works better for both people and planet. Women are a growing force in food and agriculture innovation, now representing 38% of the top food and agriculture innovators globally, up from just 28% in 2023 according to FoodTech 500. Soupergirl is seeking to spotlight an entrepreneurial woman who sees a problem or opportunity related to food within the community, industry or environment and refuses to look away, turning passion and skill into meaningful action.

This award builds on the brand’s legacy. In 2022, Soupergirl became the first CPG brand to obtain a Fair Food Certification as Polon worked alongside the Coalition of Immokalee Workers to build an entirely new standard for the packaged food industry. She wasn’t checking a box. She was building infrastructure that no independent food brand had built before. Every Soupergirl product is 100% vegan, made with sustainably sourced ingredients whenever possible, and certified plastic-neutral through rePurpose Global. In 2025 alone, the company composted over 270 tons of food scraps. Good food should not cost the earth. At Soupergirl, it never has. In fact, in 2018, Soupergirl walked away from Shark Tank without a deal rather than compromise their values before going on to become one of the most recognized mission-driven food brands in CPG.

Soupergirl of the Year Applicants should demonstrate innovative, creative or unique approaches to addressing food scarcity, equity and/or sustainability. The winner will be announced in November 2026 and will receive a $500 grant, a two-month supply of Soupergirl products, access to a 1-hour virtual mentor session with a Soupergirl co-founder, Sara Polin and will be featured on the brand’s owned social media platforms.

Soupergirl and the Supergirl film are separate, unaffiliated entities.
