TOPEKA, Kan. — SpartanNash is expanding its Hispanic grocery banner with plans to open a Supermercado Nuestra Familia in Topeka this November, marking the company’s first store under the format in Kansas.
The nearly 50,000-square-foot location, at the corner of 29th Street and California Avenue, will bring an immersive Hispanic grocery experience to southeast Topeka neighborhoods, including Highland Crest, Central Highland Park and Oakland.
Launched in 2013, the Supermercado Nuestra Familia brand is rooted in community, quality and convenience. Stores feature fresh produce, dried chiles and spices, aguas frescas and horchata, a full-service carniceria, and freshly baked goods like tres leches cakes and flans. Customers will also find handmade tamales, enchiladas, beans and rice in the cocina, as well as fresh tortillas prepared daily in the tortilleria.
“The brand-new location reflects the tastes and traditions of Topeka’s vibrant Hispanic community,” said Djouma Barry, SpartanNash senior vice president and chief retail officer. “Shoppers will enjoy exceptional service from our Associates and a terrific assortment of authentic Hispanic grocery items. And, as we welcome Topeka Associates into our food solutions company, we’re eager to integrate them into our People First culture and provide them with the tools and training for success.”
The Topeka site will be the fifth Supermercado Nuestra Familia store overall, joining four locations in Omaha, Nebraska, the most recent of which opened in April. SpartanNash said it plans to host a community grand opening celebration later this year.
The company is currently hiring associates for its new location, with openings in the produce, deli, meat, and bakery departments. Interested candidates can apply at careers.spartannash.com/topeka.
