CARLISLE, Pa. — Ahold USA announced on Monday that Joe Kelley is leaving his post as president of the company’s Stop & Shop New England division, effective immediately.

He has resigned to pursue other career opportunities, the company said.

Kelley has held the position since May 2012. Before that he was chairman, president and chief executive officer of Marsh Supermarkets Inc.

Don Sussman, president of the Stop & Stop New York Metro division, will also oversee the Stop & Shop New England division on an interim basis.

The Stop & Shop New England division, headquartered in Quincy, Mass., operates about 220 stores in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. The division employs around 34,000 associates.
