PHILADELPHIA — Summer Williams Kerley is group vice president of pharmacy growth and clinical programs at Rite Aid, a role that involves providing leadership on several of the company’s business pillars.
Her responsibilities include oversight of the company’s retail pharmacy locations; enhancing the delivery of a higher level of patient care focusing on adherence, immunizations and medication therapy management; development of ACPE (Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education) pharmacist and technician continuing education; and coordinating with health plan partners on development of new and enhanced clinical operations to increase profitability and improve health outcomes.
Kerley says she’s “incredibly proud” of the progress her team has made on several fronts over the past year or so.
“A few highlights include the implementation of a centralized clinical call center to support our pharmacy teams, as well as the expansion of pharmacist-provided services across our Rite Aid locations, tailored to state regulations,” she says. “This includes offering point-of-care testing, travel health, prescriptive authority, and hormonal contraceptive services through our own ACPE certification programs.
“We’ve also driven efficiencies in pharmacy operations with digital medication information, improved medication pick lists and a new numerical will-call system. Additionally, we successfully launched a medication synchronization program in compliance with state regulations.”
Kerley also serves as a director on the SmartSense by Digi Healthcare Advisory Board, the WE board, NACDS (National Association of Chain Drug Stores) Foundation board, and the Rite Aid Healthy Futures board. She is a founding member of the Dermatology and Retail Alliance powered by L’Oréal.
