SAN JOSE, Calif. — T&T Supermarket, the largest Asian grocery chain in Canada, made its California debut with the opening of a new store Thursday at Westgate Center in San Jose, drawing thousands of shoppers and marking a key step in its U.S. growth.
“San Jose is a long-anticipated store,” said Tina Lee, CEO of T&T Supermarkets. “We’re bringing more than just exciting, high-quality foods. We’re exporting a new way of life from Canada: one that’s deeply food-centric, celebratory, rich in tradition, and fresh-obsessed. We aim to help Asian families stay connected to the food and traditions they grew up with. In pursuit of this cause, T&T has also become a destination for Asian food discovery for everyone.”
Thousands of eager shoppers and devoted fans of T&T Supermarket poured into its newest store. Customers began lining up before sunrise for the launch, which featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony with local officials along with entertainment such as lion dancing, robotic performances and giveaways. The event also gave shoppers their first chance to experience the retailer’s mix of grocery, dining, bakery and prepared foods, along with specialty products from across Asia.
The store adds to its network of 39 locations across North America. Grand opening celebrations are set to continue through June 21, including live entertainment and daily giveaways for the first 500 customers.
T&T Supermarket has also selected the former Macy’s location at NewPark Mall in Newark for what Lee said will be its largest store in California, as the Canadian Asian grocer expands in the Bay Area. The store will span more than 72,600 square feet and is slated to open in late 2027.

Shoppers have access to thousands of items representing Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Southeast Asian and other cuisines, in addition to the store’s in-house bakery, prepared foods, fresh produce and private label assortment.
