NEWARK, Calif. — T&T Supermarket is continuing its California expansion, with plans to open its largest store in the state at NewPark Mall in Newark, bringing a major new retail anchor to the struggling shopping center.
The Canadian Asian grocery chain announced that the 72,600-square-foot full-service supermarket will occupy the former Macy's space at 200 NewPark Mall Road. The store is scheduled to open in winter 2027 and is expected to create about 400 local jobs.
The Newark location follows the successful debut of T&T's first California store in San Jose, which drew hundreds of shoppers when it opened earlier this month. The company also plans Bay Area stores in San Francisco and Millbrae as it expands its U.S. footprint.
The new supermarket will offer a broad selection of Asian groceries, fresh produce, live seafood, prepared foods, bakery items, beverages, and specialty merchandise sourced from across Asia. Customers can also expect freshly baked bread and pastries, restaurant-quality prepared meals, Asian beauty products, and more than 300 T&T private-label products.
Made-to-order offerings will include Taiwanese fantuan rice rolls and Chinese street-style savory crepes, while the in-store bakery will feature more than 150 varieties of bread, pastries and desserts.
The announcement provides a significant boost to NewPark Mall, which has seen years of declining occupancy. Macy's closed its store at the mall in March 2025, leaving one of the property's largest retail spaces vacant. T&T's arrival brings a new destination tenant to the center, alongside existing anchors such as Costco and AMC Theatres.
Founded in Vancouver in 1993, T&T has grown into Canada's largest Asian supermarket chain, operating about 40 stores across Canada and the United States. The retailer entered the U.S. market in 2024 with locations in the Seattle area and later expanded into California.
T&T says the Newark store will serve shoppers from Newark, Fremont, Union City, Hayward, and surrounding East Bay communities.
