Customers and associates help fight hunger with the campaign’s second-largest total since 2014
The campaign comes at a critical time: according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 6.8 million U.S. households experienced very low food security in 2023.
“Through The Great Pantry Makeover, we’re not only providing resources to expand access to nutritious food but also creating meaningful opportunities for our associates to connect with their neighbors and make a lasting impact.”
The effort comes at a time when nearly half of college students report experiencing food insecurity.
Now in its second year, the summer campaign has delivered more than 64 million meals across Food Lion’s 10-state footprint.
264 organizations receive grants to address food insecurity and promote nutrition education.
According to Feeding America, 1 in 5 children in the U.S. experiences hunger, a gap Food Lion Feeds aims to help fill.
Food Lion Feeds has now helped provide more than 1.5 billion meals and is committed to donating 3 billion by 2032.
For every free throw made during the regular season and tournaments, Food Lion Feeds donated the equivalent of 100 meals, up to 30,000 per team.
“At Food Lion, we believe no one should have to choose between dinner and rent or gas and groceries.”
