MATTHEWS, N.C. — Tammy DeBoer, president of Harris Teeter, brings over 35 years of retail experience to her role, guiding the company through strategic growth while fostering a strong culture of connection and community. At the helm of the wholly owned Kroger subsidiary, DeBoer oversees more than 260 stores, 70-plus fuel centers and 36,000 valued associates across seven states and Washington, D.C., ensuring that Harris Teeter remains a market leader in an evolving grocery landscape.

“At Harris Teeter, we’re not only in the food business — we’re also in the people business,” DeBoer says. “I thoroughly enjoy and am motivated by building genuine connections with our valued associates, customers and supplier partners. These connections embody our purpose: Enriching Lives. That purpose allows us to drive retention with our associates, earn loyalty with our customers and develop mutually beneficial partnerships with our suppliers.”

Since joining Harris Teeter, DeBoer has spearheaded a companywide transformation, leading the grocery retailer through the process of defining and articulating its core purpose and guiding principles, a major brand refresh, and significant capital investments aimed at sustaining long-term growth.

Prior to joining Harris Teeter in 2020, DeBoer served as executive vice president and chief merchandising officer at Family Dollar, where she played a critical role in the company’s merger with Dollar Tree. She also spent 19 years at Delhaize, contributing to the strategic development of Food Lion and Bloom.

Beyond her corporate leadership, DeBoer is deeply involved in industry and community initiatives. She chairs the board of directors for the International Fresh Produce Association, is a member of Charlotte Executive Leadership Council and serves on multiple boards, including the Charlotte Sports Foundation and Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.
