MINNEAPOLIS — Target Corp. chief information officer Beth Jacob resigned on Wednesday.

Target Corp. chief information officer Beth Jacob resigned on Wednesday.

Target chairman, president and chief executive officer Gregg Steinhafel said in an e-mailed statement that the retailer is searching outside the company for a new CIO. That executive will lead the ongoing revamp of the retailer’s computer systems and network security in the wake of the massive data breach that struck Target during the holiday shopping season, hurting sales.

"We are undertaking an overhaul of our information security and compliance structure and practices at Target," Steinhafel said.

Target also plans to elevate the role of its chief information security officer. The company is currently working with an external advisor, Promontory Financial Group, to evaluate its technology, structure, processes and staffing, Steinhafel said.
