Target expands Cyber Monday sale

MINNEAPOLIS — Target Corp. is wooing Cyber Monday shoppers by bringing back last years 15%-off sale, but launching it a day early and extending it to purchases made in brick-and-mortar stores as well as on the Target.com web site.

“Target is building on last year’s record-breaking Cyber Monday event with a truly spectacular two-day offer,” said Mike McNamara, chief information and digital officer of Target. “We’re giving guests a compelling opportunity to save 15% across Target’s broad assortment, plus the flexibility to shop the offer for two days in a way that’s most convenient to them – whether they want to shop online or in a store.”

The sitewide, storewide 15% discount – which will go live online early Sunday morning – will simply be applied at checkout both online and in stores during the two-day sale. No online promo code or in-store coupon will be required. This year Target is also applying the discount to all gaming consoles, iRobot vacuums, KitchenAid appliances and all Apple products, including the iPhone and Apple Watch.

The retailer adds that all online orders on Target.com will ship for free throughout the holidays.

In  a blog post, McNamara said the offer signals a major shopping trend.

“In our always-on, always-connected world, the alignment between a retailer’s stores and its website is critical,” McNamara said. “Given the myriad options consumers have today, we all know they demand a great in-store experience. Increasingly, they also expect the best of online to be available to them at physical stores, and I think that’s now true of major sales events like Cyber Monday.

“Last year on Cyber Monday, we offered 15% off sitewide for the first time ever. It was a huge moment for us. Traffic and orders exploded, shattering sales records and also causing our website to buckle under the pressure. The message from guests—which is what we call our Target customers—was loud and clear: guests loved saving 15% across Target’s broad assortment during the holiday shopping season.

The tremendous guest response also affirmed for us that consumers want — in fact, they demand — experiences that are easy and seamless between online and stores. They want flexibility and convenience so they can shop when they want, however they want. That’s why this year we’re making Cyber Monday history by taking last season’s Cyber Monday offer — 15% off nearly everything sitewide — and extending it to all of our 1,802 stores. Plus, we’re adding a second day, with the sale running Sunday through Monday.”
