MINNEAPOLIS — Target Corporation has appointed Amy Tu as its new chief legal and compliance officer and corporate secretary, effective August 25. Tu will take over from Don Liu, who recently announced his retirement and will transition into a strategic advisory role through May 2025.

In her new role, Tu will lead Target’s legal, compliance, and corporate governance functions, reporting directly to Brian Cornell, Target’s chair and CEO. Cornell expressed confidence in Tu’s appointment, noting her extensive experience in legal and business leadership. “Amy’s growth mindset, her passion for the law, and her skill as a business counselor make her a great addition as our leadership team drives Target's roadmap for growth and enterprise priorities," said Cornell.

Amy Tu brings a wealth of experience to Target, having previously held senior legal and leadership roles at Tyson Foods, Boeing, Walmart, and The Gap. Her expertise spans law, ethics and compliance, corporate governance, and global business operations. At Tyson Foods, Tu most recently served as president of international operations, managing a $2.5 billion business across 16 countries. She is recognized for her strategic insight and ability to lead complex, multinational teams.

Reflecting on her new role, Tu stated, "For years, I have admired the strength of Target's brand and the vibrancy of its team culture. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead these best-in-class legal affairs and compliance teams. I look forward to joining the leadership team to build on that legacy and support Target's winning strategy and sustainable growth for years to come."

Don Liu, who has been with Target since 2016, will continue to serve as a strategic advisor until May 2025. Liu has been a significant figure at Target, known for his advocacy for the company’s strategy, mentorship, and contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the legal profession. Brian Cornell praised Liu’s impact on the company and the broader legal industry, acknowledging his leadership and dedication.

As Amy Tu steps into her new role, Target looks forward to leveraging her expertise to further the company’s mission and strategic goals.
