Target names Weinstein chief marketing, guest experience officer

Former Hilton marketing chief will oversee brand engagement, Roundel, and Target+ as the retailer pursues growth.

MINNEAPOLIS — Target Corp. has named Mark Weinstein chief marketing and guest experience officer, bringing the former Hilton executive aboard to help strengthen the retailer’s connections with consumers as it pursues its next phase of growth.

Weinstein, whose appointment is effective immediately, reports directly to Target chief executive officer Michael Fiddelke. In the newly announced role, he will be responsible for shaping a more connected experience across the ways consumers interact with Target, from brand discovery and shopping to the retailer’s presence in culture and local communities.

He will also oversee Roundel, Target’s retail media network, and Target+, the retailer’s curated third-party marketplace.

“As we continue writing the next chapter at Target, deepening how we know and engage our guests will be critical to our success,” Fiddelke said. “Mark has a proven ability to understand what consumers value and turn those insights into brand connections that feel relevant and personal.”

Fiddelke added that Weinstein’s leadership will help Target elevate the guest experience across its various touchpoints, deepen relationships with existing shoppers and attract new customers.

In his previous role at Hilton, Weinstein served as global chief marketing officer for the hospitality company’s 28 brands and Hilton Honors loyalty program, as well as head of luxury brands. Target said Weinstein has focused throughout his career on developing consumer-centered brands, platforms and experiences designed to build relevance and loyalty and support long-term growth.

His appointment comes as Target works to strengthen its brand and guest experience as part of a broader growth strategy that also emphasizes merchandising, technology and its workforce and communities. The retailer operates more than 2,000 U.S. stores and employs more than 400,000 team members.

“Target is an iconic brand with the rare ability to be both deeply familiar and continually surprising,” Weinstein said. “We have an enormous opportunity to bring the brand to life across every interaction with consumers, creating experiences that feel unmistakably Target while giving people new reasons to engage with, choose and prefer us.”

The inclusion of Roundel and Target+ in Weinstein’s responsibilities underscores the increasingly broad role that marketing and customer engagement play in Target’s business. Roundel connects brands with Target shoppers through the retailer’s first-party data and advertising capabilities, while Target+ extends the company’s digital assortment through a selected group of third-party sellers.

Weinstein said he plans to build on Target’s existing brand foundation while finding “fresh, distinct and more connected ways” to engage consumers as the retailer charts its next chapter.
