BRIDGEHAMPTON, N.Y. — Target’s long-awaited Bridgehampton location is scheduled to open October 11 at Bridgehampton Commons, marking the retailer’s easternmost outpost on Long Island.
Minneapolis-based Target operates over 2,000 stores nationwide, including 20 on Long Island. The new store will be located at 2044 Montauk Highway in the Bridgehampton Commons shopping center.
Construction on the 90,000-square-foot store has been underway since last winter, with hiring beginning in the spring. The retailer just installed its signature bullseye logo on the former Kmart building, which previously housed Woolco and Caldor during its five-decade history.
While smaller than a typical Long Island Target, the store will include a Starbucks and CVS Pharmacy and is expected to employ about 150 workers.
According to various reports, the Bridgehampton location will offer several design changes to comply with Southampton’s zoning requirements and the aesthetic standards of the Hamptons. Instead of Target’s traditional red branding, the store’s exterior signage and bullseye logo are white against a gray background. Gray bollards will also replace the retailer’s trademark red posts outside the store.
Southampton planning officials requested the white signage during the approval process, and because illuminated signs are not permitted in the shopping center, the Target logo will be lit from above rather than internally.
General contractor EW Howell Construction Group has formally turned over the store to Target employees, who will now begin stocking shelves, assembling fixtures and getting the space ready for opening day.
Target signed a lease for the location in 2021, but executives said the Hamptons has been a desired market for years. The former Kmart site was one of the few available properties large enough to accommodate the retailer’s needs.
