Canadian retailer Metro Inc.’s subsidiary, McMahon Distributeur pharmaceutique Inc., will operate in-store pharmacies in Target Corp. locations in the province of Quebec. Target plans to open its first 25 stores in Quebec this autumn.

Under the partnership, the pharmacies will carry McMahon’s Brunet banner and be operated by pharmacist-owners who are McMahon franchisees. McMahon will provide supply chain and inventory services as well as all operational support to the pharmacist-owners. The pharmacies will carry Target-owned brands and provide patients with prescription and health consultations. In addition, patients will be able to use Brunet’s exclusive MaSanté online tool, which provides personalized options to access their personal files online.

"The agreement with Target provides an excellent growth opportunity for Metro’s pharmaceutical division, particularly the Brunet banner, as it enables us to significantly increase our presence, our purchasing power and our sales potential in Quebec," says Eric La Flèche, president and chief executive officer of Metro. "In all, 18 new pharmacies, including 12 in the greater Montreal area, will be set up by the summer of 2014, bringing the total of Brunet [units] to 168."

Metro operates more than 250 drug stores under the Brunet, The Pharmacy and Drug Basics banners.
